Mike is a "fork"!

We haven't forgotten that we started this blog, although it may seem that way! We appreciate in advance your forgiveness and patience. Thanks for not "un-subscribing". We love you all!

Memorial Night
Bus ride to the Zocalo for a study

Much has happened since February, when we last posted, so we will try to catch up. March was very busy here in Merida, as it was for many of you around the world. We had increased activity in the ministry, searching out the English speakers in our territory to personally invite them to the Memorial of Christ's death held on April 5th. This was a new experience for us as we have only done canvassing work so far, where we go door to door asking if anyone in the home or in the neighborhood speaks English, and create the database or list of English speakers. So this time we were returning only to those on these lists. We did not reach everyone, and we understand that much of the city has not yet been canvassed. However, it was nice to see how much work had been done thus far. We need more workers! (Mt. 9:37,38)

During this time we found many persons already contacted but with no one available to follow up on their interest, so we have been trying to do so since then and are enjoying spending time with these ones and sharing Bible truths with them on each visit.

One man we met in March is named Luis, he owns a small hardware store near our neighborhood. That morning I was not feeling well and stayed home. Mike met for service and was the only one there. He prayed for Jehovah to make good use of this trip to the hall. Mike met an English speaking man that just moved in near the Kingdom Hall and had a fine conversation. Then Mike kept walking and eventually met Luis at his hardware store. Luis was upset with family problems and after only a few minutes he poured his heart out to Mike expressing that things were at a breaking point. Mike was able to calm him with comforting scriptures and encouraged him to share these things with his family. Mike suggested they study the Bible together and offered to run to the Kingdom Hall for several copies of the book, Secret to Family Happiness. Luis reluctantly agreed for Mike to leave. So immediately Mike was off to the Hall, 15 minutes each way on foot. When he returned within 30 minutes, soaking wet with perspiration, Luis was shocked and surprised. He was not expecting this stranger he just met to really go immediately and get these books, and so quickly! Mike, said, "Well, that's what I said I was going to do." Mike proceeded to show Luis how to use the books in a practical way with his family.

A couple weeks later I had the opportunity to meet Luis, immediately he proceeded to share his account of his first visit from Mike. How upset he was, how he was very sad. And then Mike came and really helped him, and in his words, "he must have ran to that place to get the books, he came back so fast!" Luis didn't know what he would have done if Mike had not been there. He said that things with his family had greatly improved. And more recently we had the opportunity to bring a visitor by to meet Luis, and the same thing happened. He expressed how grateful he was for Mike's help with his family troubles. Mike tried to give the credit to Jehovah God, that it was because of the scriptures that Luis was comforted...but Luis said, "Ok, that's true, but you were His instrument....like a fork!"  So...Mike is a fork! We all laughed with warm hearts. What a beautiful thing to see Jehovah's spirit direct you to someone sighing and in distress, and then to see their relief! To be used in this way is truly a privilege.
